Meet the Bridging Health Clinic Team

Through their complementary approaches to alternative and modern medicine, Katie and Brandon Cunningham forged their vision of Bridging Health Clinic in the hope of inspiring and improving the wellness of their community.

Brandon Cunningham
BRANDON CUNNINGHAM (Owner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Full-time Faculty for Undergraduate Nursing at EMU, Herbalist, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutritional Coach)

Brandon Cunningham is a local Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a heavy interest in alternative medicine, such as massage therapy, herbalism, physical activity and nutrition. He earned a BSN in 2010 and an MSN from James Madison University in 2015. Brandon’s interest in medicine was sparked early in his college years after his grandmother encouraged him to take an anatomy and physiology class. His wife Katie, a Massage Therapist, taught him the medicinal art of massage. His grandparents also triggered another interest in gardening. Experiencing the healing powers of plant medicine led to attending Sacred Plant Traditions, an herbal school. Brandon has completed two years of formal study with Sacred Plant Traditions and continues with personal studies using the guides and wisdoms from his Herbal Teachers. He has been certified as a Personal Trainer and Nutritional Coach from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. The blend of modern and alternative medicine has fueled the idea and model behind Bridging Health Clinic, with the goal of educating, treating, and empowering the community.

Brandon also enjoys teaching Undergraduate Nursing students at EMU, and is currently working there full-time. Please be aware that the clinic schedule has been adjusted to accommodate for those duties.

Katie Cunningham
KATIE CUNNINGHAM (Owner, Master’s in Education, Full-time Faculty for Inclusive Early Childhood Education Masters Program at JMU, Certified Massage Therapist, Certified Yoga Instructor, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Coach)

Katie Cunningham is a Board-Certified Massage Therapist with a love for alternative approaches to improve health and wellness. She is interested in holistic health, which includes Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Herbalism, Nutrition, and many forms of Exercise. Her curiosity in Massage Therapy was provoked by some family health issues and, subsequently, stirred the desire to learn alternative ways for relieving pain and stress. Katie received her Massage Degree in 2008 from Heritage Institute in Manassas, VA. After meeting her future husband, Brandon, she returned to school and earned a master’s degree in Special Education from James Madison University in 2012 and taught in local public schools from 2012 to 2021.

Katie is now teaching full-time at JMU for the Inclusive Early Childhood Education Masters Program. She has since stepped back from providing therapeutic massages, but is still present at the client and loves to provide free teaching if patients are in need of some general education when it comes to the topics of her expertise. She is happy to share her knowledge.

Katie’s and Brandon’s love for gardening and plants bloomed early in their relationship. Together, they attended Sacred Plant Traditions, an Herbal School in Charlottesville, and completed a year-long Foundational Course in Herbalism. Along with her previous Kickboxing Instructor experience, she is certified as a National Academy of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer and Nutritional Coach. She is also a Certified Yoga Instructor and is currently studying Mat Pilates.

In her free time, you may see Katie out on the courts playing pickleball or tennis. She enjoys running with her friends and gardening with her Husband. Katie loves relaxing by doing puzzles, coloring, and reading in her hammock.
