Meet the Bridging Health Clinic Team

Through their complementary approaches to alternative and modern medicine, Katie and Brandon Cunningham forged their vision of Bridging Health Clinic in the hope of inspiring and improving the wellness of their community.

Brandon Cunningham
BRANDON CUNNINGHAM (Owner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Faculty – Eastern Mennonite University)

Brandon Cunningham is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who practices an integrative approach to healthcare that combines modern medical science with evidence-informed lifestyle and holistic therapies. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 and his Master of Science in Nursing from James Madison University in 2015.

Brandon’s interest in medicine began during his early college years after taking an anatomy and physiology course encouraged by his grandmother. Over time, this interest expanded into a broader appreciation for whole-person health, including nutrition, physical activity, massage therapy, and herbal medicine.

His wife, Katie, a licensed massage therapist, introduced him to the therapeutic benefits of bodywork, further shaping his perspective on healing and recovery. Brandon also developed a deep interest in plant medicine and herbal traditions through his grandparents’ influence and his own gardening practices. He later pursued formal training at Sacred Plant Traditions, an herbal studies school, where he completed two years of study and continues ongoing personal education in herbal medicine.

This combination of modern clinical training and traditional health practices inspired the vision behind Bridging Health Clinic, which focuses on educating patients, supporting healthy lifestyle changes, and empowering individuals to take an active role in their health.

In addition to his clinical work, Brandon serves as a full-time nursing faculty member at Eastern Mennonite University, where he teaches undergraduate nursing students. His clinic schedule is structured to accommodate both his teaching responsibilities and his commitment to providing thoughtful patient care.

Katie Cunningham
KATIE CUNNINGHAM (Volunteer)

Katie Cunningham is an educator specializing in early childhood development and inclusive education. She currently serves as a full-time faculty member at James Madison University in the Inclusive Early Childhood Education (IECE) program while pursuing her Doctorate in Education.

Katie began her professional career in health and wellness, earning her massage therapy degree from Heritage Institute in Manassas, Virginia in 2008. Her interest in holistic health developed through experiences supporting family members with health challenges, which sparked a passion for learning alternative approaches to reducing pain, stress, and improving overall well-being.

After meeting her husband, Brandon, Katie returned to James Madison University and earned a master’s degree in Special Education in 2012. She then spent nearly a decade teaching in local public schools before transitioning into higher education, where she now focuses on preparing future educators to support young children with diverse developmental needs.

Katie maintains a personal interest in wellness practices including nutrition, exercise, and herbal traditions. She and Brandon studied herbal medicine through Sacred Plant Traditions in Charlottesville and share a love for gardening and plant-based learning.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys running with friends, playing pickleball and tennis, gardening, and relaxing with puzzles, reading, or coloring in her hammock.
